By Todd McAulty. Hardcover 6in x 9in, 688pp.
Minion Pro 10.7pt/13.65pt x 26p0 with Source Sans.
Interior design & comp 1pps. Source Sans is Adobe's first open-source typeface. I thought that using an open-source font would be fitting for this book (especially as this futuristic tech-oriented story is told through online writings, in a world that's reverting back to using some analog technologies), and Source Sans was designed to be super duper readable. It's a well-designed typeface family, and really dig it for this book! This is a long book, so I focused on creating unassuming pages that are comfortable read. The “Paul the Pirate” sections are designed to stand out, to help give some fun, visual variety. Learn more here. © HarperCollins Publishers

Kepler Std 11.25pt/15.25pt x 26p0 with Univia Pro.
Interior design. A pared-down design that plays off the tension-filled tone of this suspenseful sci-fi novel. Learn more here. © Harper Voyager / HarperCollins Publishers
By Kate Racculia. Hardcover 6in x 9in, 368pp.
Chronicle Text 10.9pt/14.25pt x 26p0 with Grand Central, Mercurius MT Std, and a splash of others.
Interior design. I'm over the moon that I got to do the interior page design for another one of Kate Racculia's stunners. This one is a super fun mystery/adventure/ghost story set in Boston — so basically everything that I love, with impressive use of setting that a local like me just adores. Illustrations are by the author (!!), which inspired me to use a variety of fonts for the different kinds of text (notes, messages, invitations...) to add to the visual flair of these pages. Interior design. It was an exciting opportunity to work on this manuscript by (the late) Stan Lee and Kat Rosenfield! The design features visual nods to the story without overpowering the text. Learn more here. © Harper Voyager / HarperCollins Publishers

Adobe Garamond Pro 13pt/17pt x 23p3 with Proxima Nova, CC Biff Bam Boom, & various others for onomatopoeia.
Interior series design & comp for first two books. I grew up with Carmen — I was wild about the “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego” game show — so it was especially exciting to work on these super fun books! The interior pages integrate illustrations and expressive typography text to evoke the action-packed story lines and engage reluctant readers. Interior illustrations by Artful Doodlers. Adobe Caslon Pro 10.75pt/14.25pt x 23p6 with Golden Cockerel Init Orn ITC, Boucherie Block, and various ornaments.
I loved reading this Victorian Gothic Horror manuscript! The typography and layout are inspired by Victorian-era print design, and I also wanted to establish its own personality as well as evoke the sensuous aspects of the story. This became the series design for the subsequent titles in “The Diabolist’s Library.” Learn more here. © William Morrow Paperbacks / HarperCollins Publishers
By Dale Bailey. Hardcover 6in x 9in, 224pp.
Garamond Premiere Pro 11.75pt/14.75pt x 26p0 with Requiem Text & Display.
The gorgeous frontispiece sets the tone for this modern supernatural fantasy. I aimed for a straightforward design that doesn’t distract from the imaginative story. The part openers feature “excerpts” from the “book” within the story; I set this text differently to evoke this “book,” which also acts as a nice visual break within the pages.
