By Students from the O’Bryant School of Math and Science. Paperback 6in x 9in, 136pp.
Cover design, interior design, & comp. Cover title treatment is a custom stencil lettering that I created using Avenir as a jumping off point. We aimed for a design that reflects the critical nature of the subject matter while also being accessible for the age group, and to emphasize the student bios in conjunction with their essays. Description from 826Boston.org: “Written by O’Bryant 9th graders, this book contains biographies of individuals, from Shirley Chisholm to Chelsea Manning, who students believe have been silenced and overlooked in both their history classes and textbooks. By shedding light on these marginalized voices, their writing demonstrates the importance of teaching an honest and thoughtful U.S. history.” See book interior here. And learn more here. © 826 Boston

Cover & jacket mech design. The team was looking for a design featuring shadowy imagery where the shadow detail appears to be one thing but the lighted half shows that it’s another, that also worked along with bold typography. It was an honor to work on this unique design challenge for such an important book! Learn more here. © Harvard University Press
By Jon De Lucia. Paperback 8.5in x 11in.
Series cover designs. After working with Jon on the Bach Shapes book design, I was thrilled when he tapped me to design the book covers for this series! We explored this earlier idea that we’d considered for Bach Shapes but had ultimately moved away from — so glad that it ended up working perfectly for this project. A different color palette and a silhouette of the intended musical instrument help to visually distinguish each book in the series. Learn more here. © Musaeum Clausum Press / Jon De Lucia

Cover design, interior design, & comp. For the cover, the author had 2-color cover examples that he was hoping to emulate, so I ran with that direction while drawing inspiration from 60’s jazz albums. See book interior here. And learn more here. © Musaeum Clausum Press / Jon De Lucia

Cover design, interior design, & comp. This new book expands upon the themes of the first book, so it was necessary to expand upon the design of the first book. This is most noticeable with the cover design, which is a more complex composition of geometric shapes with an expanded color palette. See the Bach Shapes cover here. See interior here. By Jonathan M. Bowman. Hardcover 8.5in x 10.875in, 384pp.
Cover & interior design. A clean, modern, inviting, and tech-savvy design for the first edition of this interpersonal communications title. The cover design reflects the color palette and typography of the interior design, and I opted for heavy use of Caecilia to lend a warm, welcoming tone to the clean design. Using the box icons from the interior design not only creates a direct connection to the interior, but the combo of all of the icons together give a clear idea what the book is about. The composition takes inspiration from the different ways that information is organized in infographics, which also shows how the icons can visually relate to each other in this design.
